This block long mural depicts the Afro-Cuban experience...

 

..starting with the arrival of African slaves.

   
 

 The residents of Matanzas practice a form of Santeria, a system of
beliefs that merges aspects of Yoruba mythology that were
brought to the New World by Yoruba slaves, along with
Christianity and Indigenous American traditions.

The local consulta, or spiritual counselor

 
 

The residents of Callejon de las Tradiciones performed some of
their traditional rituals including drumming and dancing. Typically the
festivities last for several hours and the drums must never stop.
